M80 Stiletto

The M80 Stiletto uses new technology to reduce construction and life-cycle costs, while significantly improving performance and capabilities. This vessel is a prototype naval ship manufactured by M Ship Company as an operational experiment for the Department of Defense. Although it is only 88 feet long, its beam is an unusually wide 40 feet and - because of its hull technology and composite structure - performs like a much larger craft.

The Stiletto was designed, developed and delivered in little over a year to demonstrate [1] a different hull form and its scalability, [2] composite construction, and [3] a modern design/build methodology.

The Largest Composite Vessel Ever Built for the U.S. Government

The Stiletto is the largest vessel ever built for the U.S. government of advanced composite material (carbon fiber) for reduced weight and increased stiffness. Its performance and capabilities have fast tracked the design from experimental to operational.

Although not intended to become operational, the Stiletto was deployed to Colombia to help fight the U.S. war on drugs and made a high-speed, shallow-water drug interdiction that resulted in the capture of 1,800 lbs of cocaine.

The Most Advanced Planing Hull Technology Available

It’s superior performance is based on M Ship Co’s proprietary, globally patented technology called the M-hull®, using the bow wave energy to create an air cushion for more efficient planing. The vessel’s draft fully loaded is 3 feet and is designed for a speed of 50-60 knots.

The Stiletto was developed for high-speed military missions in the shallow water areas of littoral, and near-shore waters in support of USN (ret) Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowski’s vision of a “brown-water navy” for expeditionary combat in the 21st century. No other hull compares to its speed, ride quality, payload capability and unmanned vehicle support.

STILETTO ISR – The Next Generation Stiletto

M Ship Co. is in the process of developing the next generation Stiletto – STILETTO ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) – which will focus on future warfare with extensive use of unmanned systems. It will offer easy launch, support and retrieval of unmanned vehicles.

The STILETTO ISR will expand operational range and defensive base, multiply ISR projection as USV mothership, and provide persistent and longer range visual inspection.

The STILETTO ISR will be equipped with the latest technology to enhance warfighters’ safety, and to achieve higher speed, smaller footprint, and larger range with more eyes in order to quickly respond for sea-lane security. It is designed to fit inside an amphibious assault ship (L-SHIP) for easy transportation anywhere in the world.

Significant Advantages Over Conventional Displacement or Planing Craft

“Wide & Shallow” M-hull® platforms offer significant advantages over “Long & Skinny” conventional displacement or planing crafts based on the U.S. military’s new littoral missions.

The revolutionary M-hull® technology provides open interior for modular multi mission capability, shallow draft with large payload and deck spaces, not to mention high speeds with smooth ride quality.

M Ship Co. has designed a family of such vessels to qualify for the full range of missions contemplated for operations in the littoral and coastal zone. They may be purchased by government and military agencies under a no-bid, sole-source acquisition contract.
