Date: July 24, 2003Mangia Onda, a division of M SHIP CO, and Siewert Design were recently honored with the Bronze Award in the 2003 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) competition for their collaboration designing the Wahoo Sailing Dinghy. The innovative sailboat design won the award based on judging criteria including design innovation, benefit to the user and business, ecological responsibility and aesthetic appeal. The Wahoo shared the spotlight with the best and hottest designers of products such as the BMW Mini Cooper and Palm PDA.
Says Bill Burns of M SHIP CO, “The design philosophy for the Wahoo was to create a fun, easy-to-sail dinghy perfect for novice or seasoned sailors. This was accomplished by packaging the innovative M-hull with a friendly, non-threatening design and simple-to-use controls.”
The Wahoo creates an exciting and fun way for more people to sail using the patented M-hull design that needs no centerboard and greatly improves stability with its manta ray wings. The boat is offered in several hot neon colors and is packaged with a matching sail. In a matter of minutes, even first-time sailors can be off the beach and having fun. Designer Greg Siewert specializes in incorporating distinctive and functional yacht styling with contemporary production methods and materials. Using a sound background from previous positions at several major boat builders, Siewert’s innovative Marine Industrial Design has won many industry awards and patents.
