SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA - M Ship Co. announced today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against ICE Marine Ltd., a UK company, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, to enforce M Ship Co.’s patent rights covering its M-hull boat technology. The lawsuit alleges that ICE Marine has infringed M Ship Co.’s U.S. Patent No. 6,250,245, entitled “M-Shaped Boat Hull,” and has induced others to infringe the patent in the United States.

The M-hull, a non-conventional air entrapment hull design, was invented by M Ship Co.’s founders, Chuck Robinson and Bill Burns. M Ship Co. recently completed its highly successful delivery of the military demonstrator, Stiletto, an 80-foot twin M-hull design. This impressive craft showcases the many benefits of M Ship’s air entrapment technology for military operations in littoral and riverine areas around the world. The military has recognized these shallow water regions as important future battlespaces and is investing in the development of new hull technologies with improved operational capabilities in such areas.

The M-hull’s performance capabilities also offer rapid penetration into the commercial and recreational markets. Expansion into these developing markets has been an important element of M Ship’s overall business strategy.

M Ship’s lead counsel in the lawsuit is Richard A. Clegg of the San Diego law firm of Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek. Harvey W. Gurland, Jr., of Duane Morris LLP’s Miami office, will be local co-counsel.
